To whom it may concern , I call on anyone who is a parent to hold their kids tight and cherish every moment you have with them. Life can change in an instant, especially if your child nearly drowns… This is the story of our little Angel, Penny.
On February 15, 2020, our 18 month-old Penelope (Penny) Reese Lagergren, somehow ventured her way out our back screen door into the backyard, where she tumbled into the lake behind our home and nearly drowned. When we found her, she was face down in the water, unresponsive and later discovered to be in full cardiac arrest. It would be 50 minutes of CPR before doctors were able to find a pulse and bring her back to us. She nearly lost her left leg due to popped vessel whilst being resuscitated. She spent 2 months in the hospital during the height of COVID-19 on a ventilator until she was discharged on April 15th. She returned home to her 3 older sisters and Mom and Dad.
Since then, she has had 24/7 home nursing care and has been undergoing aggressive treatment to help combat her anoxic brain injury 7 days a week. Due to the nature of her injury, insurance does not cover any of her therapy, so we have established a means to keep “Penny‘s Crazy Train to Recovery”(Named after Ozzy’s famous tune and subsequently her favorite song) on the right track so that she may grow with all of her older sisters and have a future, and it is through the love and generosity of strangers that we have kept Penny‘s dreams of a recovery alive. She has already accomplished so much that Doctors never thought she could, and most recently celebrated a third birthday. We will do whatever we have to for our baby girl, even if it means lying down on the table to take her place. We love her so much. God be with all of you in these trying times and thank you so much for your consideration and generosity! All funds raised will be used to help Penny‘s recovery!
